Wheelie bin theft

Today my wheelie bin was stolen. I ask you a WHEELIE BIN! Here is the time line, 5.30 am i take my rusbbish to the bin, which is there. Rubbish safely in the bin i return to my home approx 2 minutes later.  A little after six (maybe 6 .10/15) the bin men come as its collection day. There was lots of noise and they left quickly. The bin men then returned about 20 minutes after that again very noisily. 8.55 i leave home to go to school (late) didnt look for bin. Neighbour texts me at 9.50 to say she was going to get my bin back and theres no sign of it. I return home 10.20 and bin is nowhere to be seen.

DESCRIPTION

Black wheeli bin with a yellow number 1on the lid and a lewisham council logo, see below for example. I miss my bin and would like it back …..getting emotional now, if you see my wheeli bin leave a reply. ;-(

On a slightly more serious note, i have reported this to lewisham councils refuse people and they have ordered a new wheelie bin for me….which is great but i will have to wait approximately six weeks for it. Not so great. I asked the man on the phone what should i do with my rubbish? He repied to leave the rubbish out on collection days. I have rubbish daily (even though i recyle daily)and leaving a weeks worth of rubbish in doors is just not an option. He said he could not guarantee that i wouldn’t get fined if i put the rubbish outside. What is one to do?

Well doesn’t that just take the biscuit – your wheelie bin stolen. Nail ‘em up, I say.

    How mad is that…

It might not have been stolen – occasionally wheelie bins get ’swallowed’ by the rubbish vans – had a couple of cases like that in my ward recently. In those cases residents were also told that they would have to wait 6 weeks to get a replacement, which is clearly unacceptable, but in reality the waste team got a replacement bin out the next day. If you don’t get one by the middle of next week call again to check it has indeed been logged or drop your cllrs an e-mail and ask them to follow up.

I notice no one steals my wheelie bin lol, nor would they want to. Isn’t it pathetic when they stoop to nicking a bin.

sorry about your loss. Still – I read in the press that some councils are charging up to £60 for a replacement, so at least you are not being charged?
Actually, it may be these replacement charges which are creating a Black Bin Market !!!

Aargh! I know exactly how you feel. I live in Sydney and we have green wheelie bins and two other containers for recycling. One night someone worked their way up the street and stole all the recycling containers from my side of the street — and that’s about 50 houses. The council said the same thing: just leave your stuff outside. Useless!

Beleive it or not, we are in the wheelie bin business. Wheelie bin loss is a big issue for some councils. Leeds for example replace 30,000 wheelie bins each year. A lareg quanitity of which are torched on bornfire night. Lewisham has a much better record, although the rna out recently due to their incompetance.
